Fagus sylvatica
Dawyck Purple is a European Beech prized for narrowly columnar shape and deep purple foliage. The Dawyck Purple was developed in Rotterdam, Netherlands, in 1968. It is a hybrid of the original columnar Dawyck found in 1860 in the woods of the Dawyck Estate in the Scottish border near Peebles, and a copper/purple leaf beech. The cross produced a beautiful deep purple narrow variety.
