Hana Matoi

One of the most heavily variegated of the purple red dissectum maples. Predominantly vibrant pink on purple, which if given a little shade adds white accents. In Fall, the pink intensifies to a darker shade. On my tree, even the trunk is striped in yellows and green, much like the true Goshiki Shidare. The name Hana Matoi translates to a flower totem. In the Edo period, firemen carried totems decorated in elaborate tassels.
