Fagus sylvatica
I.am very fortunate to have amazing friends who truly know rare plants. This European Beech was sold to me as a specimen from the Pacific Northwest near Portland, Oregon by my friend Jody Karlin. This beautiful cultivar is one of the last to leaf out in Spring, with the darkish reddish purple leaves that twist and corkscrew into the sky, and then weep to the ground like an exotic Black Swan. Most people don't find European Beeches to have attractive Fall color. Here in Nashville, they often have gold and bronze tones that are a pure joy.
