Acer palmatum
Searle's Variegated is a relatively hard to find variety of variegated maple. I would classify this as a Butterfly type, but it has more pink at first like Kagiri Nishiki and Beni Shichihenge with the latter being a darker pink red in Spring. Habit to this is not as robust as Kagiri Nishiki but less twiggy and sparse as Beni Shichihenge is. I have seen this classed as a dark, but it does get a nice caliper eventually. To me, this is a variety needing a wider audience in the maple world. It also gets nifty flecks in the trunk that give it an older look.
